Tottenham Hotspur's talks with Antonio Conte over the managerial vacancy broke down over the Italian's unrealistic financial demands, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur's talks with Antonio Conte over the managerial vacancy in North London reportedly broke down due to unrealistic financial demands from the Italian.

After masterminding Inter Milan's successful charge to the Serie A title in the 2020-21 campaign, Conte stood down from his Nerazzurri post and was the strong favourite for the vacant position at Tottenham.

Spurs were understood to have been in talks with the former Chelsea boss, but negotiations between the two parties collapsed earlier this month, supposedly over Conte's concerns of a lack of ambition.

Now, The Sun reports that Conte was demanding more money than Daniel Levy was willing to fork out, with the ex-Inter coach hoping for a yearly salary of £15m to return to England.

The report adds that Conte also wanted a £100m transfer budget to overhaul the Spurs squad, and those inside Tottenham believed that his financial demands would have been 'damaging' to the club's future.

Spurs' search for a permanent successor to Jose Mourinho continues, and the Lilywhites have supposedly reignited their interest in Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
