Manchester United reportedly agree to sell 22-year-old attacker Tahith Chong to Championship club Birmingham City.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed to sell attacker Tahith Chong to Championship club Birmingham City.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan with the West Midlands club, but was reduced to only 22 appearances in all competitions due to injury.

According to Sky Sports News, Chong is now set to undergo a medical ahead of joining Birmingham on a permanent deal, as Man United have agreed a fee with the second-tier side.

The report adds that Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag was keen to see how Chong performed in pre-season before making a final decision on his future.

However, the Dutch winger – who has less than 12 months remaining on his contract – has now been given permission to leave Old Trafford, six years after joining the club's youth system from Feyenoord.

West Bromwich Albion were also understood to have expressed their interest in signing Chong, but Birmingham City have seemingly won the race for his signature.

Since making his professional debut for Man United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2019, Chong has made 16 appearances for the club across all tournaments, providing just two assists in the 2019-20 Europa League.

Chong is set to become the second player to join Birmingham from Man United this summer after midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, who will spend the 2022-23 campaign on loan at St Andrew's.
