Diogo Dalot will return to Manchester United this summer after "an absolutely extraordinary year" at AC Milan, according to the defender's father Jacinto Teixeira.

The 22-year-old, who made his Portugal debut against France at Euro 2020 on Wednesday night, spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan with Milan, featuring on 33 occasions in all competitions.

The Italian giants are thought to be keen on the idea of keeping the right-back for at least another season, but Dalot's father has revealed that his son is heading back to Old Trafford.

"Diogo spent a year on loan at Milan and will now return to Manchester United," Teixeira told Antena 1. "It was an absolutely extraordinary year for him, with a great evolution, where, above all, he managed to recover his physical form after two very serious injuries in the last two years."

The Portuguese has made 35 appearances for Man United since joining the 20-time English champions from Porto in July 2018.

The defender's contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, who are said to be closing in on a deal for Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho, is due to expire in June 2023.
