Preview: Sheffield Wednesday vs. Bournemouth - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship fixture between Sheffield Wednesday and Bournemouth, including predictions, team news and lineups.

On Tuesday night, Bournemouth travel to Sheffield Wednesday as two sides fighting at opposite ends of the table battle it out.

Bournemouth will be hoping to keep the pressure on the top two, while Wednesday will be looking for any kind of result to halt their poor run of form.

Sheffield Wednesday went down 1-0 to fellow strugglers Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, condemning them to four losses on the spin and leaving them rooted to the foot of the Championship table.

Garry Monk is now facing increased pressure as his side have only managed two goals in their last six, having conceded nine in that same period.

Six wins in 32 fixtures, as well as no home win in over eight months, mean that the Owls are eight points behind 23rd-placed Wycombe after Saturday's defeat and 10 points shy of safety.

Monk's men now welcome a talent-filled Bournemouth side, before facing Millwall, Preston North End and promotion-chasing Swansea City.

Bournemouth come into this fixture off the back of a 1-1 draw with Derby County, after they had to come from behind against Phillip Cocu's men.

Rodrigo Riquelme's first Bournemouth goal kept the Football League's last unbeaten record alive on Wayne Rooney's return from self-isolation for Derby.

Jason Tindall will be concerned that his side are yet to fulfill their potential having managed three 1-1 draws in their last four games, and he will be hoping that they can overcome a troubled Wednesday side on Tuesday for their fifth win of the season.

The Cherries' trip to Hillsborough is followed by an away fixture with Birmingham City and a home tie with leaders Reading.

Team News

For Wednesday, Massimo Luongo will again be a big loss in midfield, as will the likes of Dominic Iorfa, Tom Lees, and Izzy Brown.

Monk, who made five changes on Saturday, could well shuffle his pack once more and steer clear of the 3-5-2 formation that has seen them win just four out of 18 league matches lining up in that system post-lockdown.

Tindall recalled Arnaut Danjuma, Philip Billing and Diego Rico for Saturday's fixture, and these three face competition from Dan Gosling, Joshua King and Lloyd Kelly, who could return to the matchday group.

David Brooks could also be in line for a start having recently returned from injury.

Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:
Dawson; Odubajo, Palmer, Borner; Harris, Pelupessy, Bannan, Dele-Bashiru, Reach; Paterson, Rhodes

Bournemouth possible starting lineup:
Begovic; Mepham, Cook, Kelly; Stacey, Cook, Billing, Smith; Danjuma; King, Solanke

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Bournemouth

Wednesday have been in some dire form recently and we do not see them being able to turn it around against the high-flying Bournemouth side. Though the hosts will no doubt be brimming with effort, it is likely to be Bournemouth who take all three points as we expect their class to tell.
