Cristiano Ronaldo is close to making a decision on his future at club level, with Al-Nassr the favourites to sign him, according to a report.

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly close to making a decision on his future at club level.

The 37-year-old is available on a free transfer, having had his contract terminated by Manchester United at the end of November following the explosive interview that he gave to Piers Morgan on TalkTV.

Ronaldo continues to be heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but it is understood that he is holding out for European offers despite struggling to generate any serious interest thus far.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Portugal international 'will decide his future in the next days', with the forward keen to make the move to a new team as soon as possible.

The report claims that Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr have told the player's camp that they will 'push for his signature in the coming days', as the club are desperate to win the race for his signature.

Ronaldo is believed to be keen to join a Champions League club, but there has been a lack of interest following his struggles at Man United in the first half of the campaign.

The forward only managed three goals and two assists in 16 appearances for the Red Devils before linking up with the Portugal squad for the 2022 World Cup.

Ronaldo became the first men's player to score in five World Cups when he found the back of the net against Ghana in the team's tournament opener, but he was dropped to the bench for the round of 16 and quarter-finals.

Ex-Man United teammate Patrice Evra recently claimed that he could see the striker retiring following a difficult few months.

"When I talk to him I don't speak about what he is doing next, we are talking more about life and family. I don't know. I don't know if Ronaldo will retire," Evra told Sky Sports News.

"Sometimes when you have got all of those critics, and especially at the end of your career, you are like 'ok, I think it is time to stop'. Especially when you are not in the starting XI with your national team, because Cristiano wanted to play and to be fit.

"To win the World Cup with his country was his dream. Now he doesn't have that dream. I won't talk for Cristiano but I won't be surprised if he says 'I'll retire', because now everything Cristiano Ronaldo does - he's a bad person, he's a bad player whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to retire."

However, it is understood that Ronaldo has no plans to retire at this stage, with an announcement on his new club likely to arrive in the near future.

Any move to Al-Nassr would almost certainly make him the highest-paid footballer of all time, with the club thought to be willing to pay him in the region of £172m a year.

Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon and Real Madrid are among the European clubs to be linked with Ronaldo.
