Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Brentford

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Monday's Premier League clash with Brentford.

Liverpool will go in search of their fifth successive Premier League victory when they travel to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford on Monday.

The Reds came from behind to record a 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Friday, where a pair of Wout Faes own goals cancelled out Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's opener for the Foxes.

Jurgen Klopp's men enter the New Year still sitting in sixth place in the rankings, four points off the Champions League places following Manchester United's win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with the Bees, who ran out 2-0 winners over West Ham United last time out.

Cody Gakpo

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Other
Possible return date: January 7 (vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Cody Gakpo will officially join Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven on January 1, meaning that he would be eligible to make his debut on Monday, but Klopp does not expect the paperwork to be sorted in time and has pointed to next weekend's FA Cup clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers as a more realistic target.

Fabinho

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Personal
Possible return date: January 2 (vs. Brentford)

Fabinho was nowhere to be seen against Leicester due to personal reasons, with his wife recently giving birth, but he will be expected to be back in the matchday squad for Monday.

Harvey Elliott

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: January 2 (vs. Brentford)

Harvey Elliott was the victim of some rough treatment against Leicester and ultimately had to be replaced in the 86th minute. However, Klopp does not believe that the 19-year-old's issue is more serious than a knock, and he could be fit enough to play on Monday.

Andrew Robertson

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Dead leg
Possible return date: January 2 (vs. Brentford)

Andrew Robertson lasted just over an hour against Leicester before having to be withdrawn with a muscular problem - ironically triggered by a warm-up challenge from Elliott, who kneed the left-back in the hip - but his dead leg ought to recover in time for the clash with Brentford.

Luis Diaz

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Luis Diaz was on the road to recovery from a knee injury before suffering a setback in Dubai, and he is expected to spend the next three months on the sidelines following surgery.

Arthur

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: February 4 (vs. Wolves)

Juventus loanee Arthur, who is yet to make his Premier League debut, was forced to undergo surgery on a thigh injury back in October and is facing several more weeks of rehabilitation.

Diogo Jota

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: February 4 (vs. Wolves)

Diogo Jota was forced to miss the World Cup after being withdrawn on a stretcher in October's win over Manchester City, and he is unlikely to return before the start of February at the earliest.

James Milner

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: January 2 (vs. Brentford)

James Milner has missed Liverpool's last two games since sustaining a hamstring injury against Manchester City in the EFL Cup, but the experienced midfielder should be in contention to feature here.

Roberto Firmino

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: January 2 (vs. Brentford)

As is the case with Milner, Roberto Firmino has sat out the wins over Aston Villa and Leicester after damaging his calf prior to the EFL Cup clash with Man City, but he could also be given the green light to return against Brentford.

Curtis Jones

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Shin
Possible return date: January 2 (vs. Brentford)

Curtis Jones has been struggling to recover from a troublesome shin problem this season, but he was due to return to team training prior to the New Year and may therefore force his way back into contention for Monday's game.
