Preview: Coventry City vs. Queens Park Rangers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Championship playoff contenders Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers go head-to-head at the CBS Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Sky Blues are currently ninth in the table and five points behind the top six, but with two games in hand over sixth-placed Middlesbrough, while the Hoops are fourth.

Coventry got a much-needed three points last weekend as they cruised to a dominant 4-1 victory against struggling Peterborough United.

It was the Sky Blues' first win in seven league games and they will hope that it reignites their playoff bid after slipping out of the top six last month.

Mark Robins's side have only lost three times at the CBS Arena this season but have won just one of their last six league games there.

Just three Championship sides have scored more goals at home this season than Coventry and only West Bromwich Albion have conceded fewer at home.

It is a crucial period for the Midlands outfit as they have fixtures against other playoff contenders Stoke City and Middlesbrough to come before the end of January.

QPR are currently three points inside the top six, having played at least one game fewer than all of the other teams in the top seven.

Rangers overtook West Bromwich Albion in the table last weekend as Charlie Austin's 89th-minute goal secured a vital 1-0 win against his former club.

Mark Warburton's side have now won three consecutive league matches and have suffered just two defeats in their last 12 games in all competitions.

Away from home, QPR have won four of their last five outings and only Fulham have scored more goals on the road in the Championship this season.

Second-half goals from Lyndon Dykes and Yoann Barbet gave the Hoops a 2-0 win over Coventry earlier in the campaign.

Team News

Mark Robins may be tempted to name an unchanged team after comfortably beating Peterborough last weekend, but he does have a couple of selection dilemmas.

New signing Jake Bidwell is in contention to make his debut at left wing-back, but Jordan Shipley filled in admirably in that spot last weekend with Ian Maatsen sidelined.

Meanwhile in the back three, Kyle McFadzean will be eager to come back in to start, with Michael Rose the most likely to drop out.

Austin will be pushing to start for QPR after coming off the bench to score the winner against West Brom last weekend.

Defender Jordy de Wijs is back in training following a calf problem, but former Coventry man Sam McCallum remains sidelined as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Ilias Chair and Seny Dieng have both progressed with their respective countries at the Africa Cup of Nations so continue to be absent.

Coventry City possible starting lineup:
Wilson; Hyam, McFadzean, Clarke-Salter; Kane, Hamer, Sheaf, Bidwell; O'Hare, Allen; Godden

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Marshall; Dickie, Dunne, Barbet; Adomah, Johansen, Field, Wallace; Willock; Dykes, Austin

We say: Coventry City 2-2 Queens Park Rangers

This should be a fascinating encounter between two well-coached sides with big aspirations. QPR have momentum following three consecutive wins, but Coventry's confidence will also be high after easing past Peterborough. We cannot separate them, so are predicting an entertaining draw.
