Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane turned down a lucrative new contact offer made by the club earlier this summer, according to a report.

Kane had previously expressed his desire to leave Spurs and join Premier League champions Manchester City, who had two bids in excess of £100m rejected.

However, the 28-year-old revealed earlier this week that he is to stay with Tottenham this summer, ending his transfer saga for the time being.

According to The Athletic, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and managing director Fabio Paratici sat down with Kane when he returned from his holiday on August 7, and held talks over a new and improved contract.

The salary offered to the England captain was believed be worth £400,000 a week, which would have made the striker the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

However, Kane, who is currently earning around £300,000 per week, is currently not interested in extending his contract, which still has three years remaining.

Tottenham's number 10 returned to the starting lineup for the first time this season on Thursday evening and scored twice as they beat Pacos de Ferreira 3-0 in their Europa Conference League playoff tie.
