Stefano Okaka fires Sampdoria to victory against Sassuolo

Sampdoria beat relegation-threatened Sassuolo 2-1 in their Serie A match at the Stadio Alberto Braglia.

Stefano Okaka scored a second-half winner as Sampdoria saw off Sassuolo 2-1 in their Serie A match this evening.

The visitors took the lead in the first minute through Gianluca Sansone, who drove into the box before firing a low strike past Gianluca Pegolo.

Sassuolo responded well to falling behind and equalised in the 16th minute when Simone Zaza picked out Alessandro Longhi to tap home from close range.

Raman Chibsah came close to giving the home side the lead on the half-hour mark, but he fired wide from inside the box, before Birkir Bjarnason headed a free kick over the bar for Sampdoria.

On the stroke of half time the visitors almost scored their second of the night as Renan fired a free kick against the post.

In the 66th minute Sampdoria retook the lead through Okaka, who latched on to Eder's ball over the top, before lifting the ball into the net past the on-rushing Pegolo.

Vasco Regini was sent off late on for Sampdoria, but they managed to hold on to earn a fourth win from their last five league matches.
