Kris Boyd backs former Rangers teammate Lee McCulloch for Kilmarnock success

Kilmarnock frontman Kris Boyd insists that new player-coach Lee McCulloch will be successful having moved to Rugby Park from Rangers.

Kilmarnock forward Kris Boyd has backed old friend and new teammate Lee McCulloch to shine at Rugby Park next season.

The pair played together at Rangers last year, but both left the club having endured difficult spells at Ibrox during a campaign in which they were denied progression back into the Scottish Premiership following a defeat to Motherwell in the playoffs.

"Lee will be a great addition on and off the field. He played 40-odd games for Rangers last year and it would be pretty difficult for him to just hang up the boots," said Boyd, according to the Daily Mail.

"The older you get, the more you need to be playing regularly. But he's the same as everyone else. If he's performing he will be in the team. And if he's not, he'll be out of it.

"That's the way the manager is and it's good that we have competition for places in the squad. But Lee has had a career at the highest level, North and South of the border. He has great experience and he'll be looking to pass that on."

McCulloch will serve Kilmarnock as a player-coach after agreeing a three-year deal with the team.
