Arsenal defender William Saliba will be given the chance to impress Mikel Arteta in pre-season and is not for sale this summer, according to a report.

Arsenal are reportedly not willing to entertain offers for defender William Saliba this summer.

After spending a season back on loan with Saint-Etienne, the centre-back was tipped for big things upon his arrival at the Emirates in 2020, but he failed to make a single appearance for the first team before being shipped out to Nice.

Saliba formed an effective partnership with Jean-Clair Todibo in the heart of the Aiglons defence, leading to suggestions that he could seek a permanent move away from Arsenal.

However, football.london reports that Saliba will instead be given the opportunity to prove himself in pre-season with a view into integrating him into the first team.

Bayer Leverkusen were rumoured to have emerged as contenders for the 20-year-old's signature, but with David Luiz set to leave the club after Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi departed in January, Mikel Arteta's defensive ranks are expected to be bolstered by the return of the youngster.

Saliba bagged one goal for Nice in 20 Ligue 1 appearances during the 2020-21 season, and his contract with Arsenal does not expire until 2024.
