Joleon Lescott backs Darren Moore for West Bromwich Albion job

Former West Bromwich Albion defender Joleon Lescott backs Darren Moore to be given the head coach position at The Hawthorns on a permanent basis.

Former West Bromwich Albion defender Joleon Lescott has suggested that Darren Moore deserves a chance to remain in charge of the Baggies on a full-time basis.

Earlier this month, Moore was named as caretaker head coach after the exit of Alan Pardew, and the youth coach has guided the club to eight points from four matches in the Premier League.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster has backed Moore to remain at The Hawthorns and Lescott feels that there is currently "no better candidate" than the former centre-back.

Lescott told Sky Sports News: "I think the players have responded to him, I know he is a passionate guy in regards to coaching, he loves the club.

"He has got a lot of affiliation there with them and if the majority of the players are willing to stay then there would be no better candidate than Darren Moore to take control."

West Brom are expected to be relegated to the Championship, with the club currently sitting five points adrift of safety in the top-flight standings.
