Football Association of Wales president Steve Williams says that Rob Page will remain as Wales manager for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Rob Page will continue in his role as Wales manager for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

On Tuesday night, the Dragons suffered a heartbreaking defeat in their Euro 2024 playoff final with Poland, losing 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

Wales had more than matched their opponents throughout the 120 minutes in Cardiff, creating the better opportunities, but they ultimately missed out on a fourth consecutive appearance at a major tournament.

After the game, Page claimed that is team would only improve with the more time that it has together, although the fanbase has generally been left split over whether the former defender should remain at the helm.

There had been suggestions that the Football Association of Wales may go in a different direction, with former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper an obvious candidate should the position become vacant.

However, president Steve Williams has moved to remove any doubt over Page's future by revealing that he will lead the bid to qualify for the next World Cup in North America.

Williams said: "The FAW can confirm Rob Page is their manager for the forthcoming campaign in accordance with his contract.

"Rob is the manager. His contract runs to the end of the World Cup and that is how we continue to work."

Page has been manager of Wales since replacing Ryan Giggs in November 2020, recording 15 wins, 15 wins and 13 defeats from his 43 matches in charge.

A last-16 appearance at the delayed Euro 2020 was followed by qualification for the 2022 World Cup, Wales' first since 1958, but they were eliminated at the group stage.

Wales also underperformed in Euro 2024 qualifying, finishing third behind Turkey and Croatia, but a 4-1 victory over Finland last week gave reason for optimism before a frustrating night against Poland.

As it stands, Wales only have one friendly scheduled until September - against Slovakia on June 8 - before they play Turkey, Montenegro and Iceland in the UEFA Nations League.
