Senegal progress to the last eight of the Olympic Games as Group A runners-up after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with UAE at the City of Coventry Stadium.

Senegal have joined Team GB in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games after recording a 1-1 draw with the United Arab Emirates at the City of Coventry Stadium tonight.

The African nation came from behind to earn a point, which was enough for them to progress after Uruguay lost to the hosts in Cardiff.

UAE took a surprise lead on 22 minutes when Ismaeil Matar netted against the run of play.

Senegal nearly responded with an immediate equaliser, but both Mohamed Diame and Pape Souare were guilty of missing good chances.

Former Wigan Athletic midfielder Diame went close again just before the break but was this time denied by UAE keeper Eisa Khalid.

It didn't take long after the interval for Senegal to equalise, however, as Moussa Konate levelled the scores on 49 minutes.

They pushed for a winner as both Stephane Badji and Konate came close to completing the comeback.

However, as the match went into the latter stages, it was clear that Senegal were happy to hang on for the draw.

They will return to action in the quarter-finals against Mexico on Saturday.
