Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Bayern, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two clubs.

The first leg lived up to the billing, and Real Madrid and Bayern Munich would do well to increase the entertainment factor in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday evening.

The two continental titans shared four goals between them in an engrossing 2-2 stalemate at the Allianz Arena and now clash once more at the Bernabeu, where Real Madrid celebrated officially winning the La Liga title at the weekend.

Prior to kickoff on Wednesday, Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti also learned that Borussia Dortmund will be waiting to scrap with the victor of Wednesday's game at Wembley in this year's showpiece thanks to their 2-0 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 27
Real Madrid wins: 11
Draws: 4
Bayern wins: 12

Real Madrid and Bayern fans could be forgiven for being sick of the sight of one another by now, as their sides will be facing off for the 28th time in competitive action this week, and neither team has been able to build up a dominant streak over the other.

Indeed, Bayern just shade the wins counter with 12 victories compared to 11 for their counterparts in white, while there have been just four stalemates, although two of those have come in their most recent two showdowns.

Last week's four-goal thriller saw Vinicius Junior (two), Leroy Sane and Harry Kane make the net bulge for the second successive 2-2 draw between the two former European Cup winners, a result which also appeared in the top left-hand corner during the second leg of their 2017-18 semi-final.

However, Real Madrid had already prevailed 2-1 at the Allianz Arena en route to winning the trophy, and Los Blancos are actually on a seven-game unbeaten streak against FC Hollywood, who they also eliminated from the 2016-17 quarters and 2013-14 semis.

Not since the 2011-12 semi-finals have Bayern managed to get the better of the 14-time continental champions, prevailing on penalties before appropriately suffering similar heartbreak in the final against Chelsea, although they are winless in seven away games versus Real across 90 or 120 minutes.

Bayern have to go back to the 2000-01 semi-finals for the last time that they triumphed on Real Madrid territory, getting the job done in the first leg thanks to a Giovane Elber effort, and they have managed to progress from four of their previous seven semi-final ties with Los Blancos.

However, the aforementioned 1-0 success also represents Bayern's most recent clean sheet against Real Madrid, who have since made the net bulge in 16 straight games against Wednesday's visitors, and Cristiano Ronaldo unsurprisingly leads the way with nine efforts to his name.

From the pitch to the dugout, and last week's 2-2 draw also means that Real boss Ancelotti has not lost any of his nine Champions League clashes with Bayern - masterminding six victories - and no coach has ever amassed such a long unbeaten sequence against one team in Europe's premier tournament.
