Nantes move into fourth with 2-1 win over Nice

Nantes move into fourth spot in the Ligue 1 table having overcome travelling side Nice 2-1, thanks to an own goal and a strike from Itay Shechter.

Nantes have moved into fourth spot in the Ligue 1 table as an own goal and a strike from Itay Shechter handed them a 2-1 victory over travelling Nice this evening.

Nice could not have got off to a worse start when, after nine minutes, midfielder Jordan Amavi managed to divert the ball into his own net when competing with Nantes defender Papy Mison Djilobodji.

Shechter could have put the hosts two ahead minutes later when he diverted his effort wide of the top corner, before Oswaldo Vizcarrondo headed tamely at the goalkeeper from close range.

Nice had very little impact on the opening half and they were soon made to pay for their lack of ambition as Shechter was picked out by Yacine Bammou, before firing into the bottom left corner to make it 2-0 at the break.

In a second half of very few chances, Nice made inroads back into the game when Amavi atoned for his earlier error by heading into the net from a difficult angle to make it 2-1.

Nantes should have made the victory a little more comfortable in the closing stages, but Lucas Deaux could only fire wide after being played in by Jordan Veretout.
