Metz held to draw by Rennes

Rennes move further away from the Ligue 1 relegation zone by holding Metz to a goalless draw.

Rennes claimed their first away point of the season on Saturday evening thanks to a goalless draw with Metz at Stade Saint-Symphorien.

Both sides were forced to try their luck from distance in a tight start to the contest, before Metz's Sergei Krivets wasted the first clear chance by heading over from Bouna Sarr's cross.

Philipp Hosiner quickly followed with a similar miss of his own when he failed to find the target after meeting an inviting delivery from Pedro Henrique, who then sent a header wide just before the break.

Kamil Grosicki forced his way into the box early in the second half with a clever piece of skill, but his powerful strike was pushed to safety by Rennes stopper Benoit Costil.

Neither side would settle for the draw in the second half as the game remained open until the final whistle.

However, a lack of cutting edge would mean that the points were shared, as Guido Milan sliced a good chance wide for Metz in the closing stages.
