Manchester United midfielder Fred is on the verge of completing a switch to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, according to a report.

Manchester United midfielder Fred is reportedly closing in on a switch to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

There has been a host of speculation surrounding the Brazil international's future during this summer's transfer window, having been made surplus to requirements by Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag.

Fred did not travel with the Man United squad on their pre-season tour of the United States, and he was also left out of the friendlies against Lens and Athletic Bilbao last weekend.

At one stage, Galatasaray were thought to be the favourites for the midfielder, but it is understood that Fenerbahce have now secured a deal for the 30-year-old.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a deal is now in place for the South American to make the move to Fenerbahce, with all parties agreeing to the switch.

Romano claims that the midfielder will now head to Turkey to undergo his medical before an official announcement is made by the two clubs.

Fred arrived at Man United from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018, and he has represented the Red Devils on 213 occasions in all competitions.

The Brazilian was a regular for Ten Hag's side during the 2022-23 campaign, making 56 appearances in all competitions, contributing six goals and six assists in the process.

However, the midfielder found it difficult to secure regular starts, and his game-time is likely to have been limited during the new season following Mason Mount's arrival.

Man United are expected to sign a defensive midfielder before the end of the transfer window, with Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat said to be the club's leading target in that area of the field.

Donny van de Beek is also being heavily linked with a move away from the club, with Real Sociedad seen as the favourites to sign the Netherlands international.

Meanwhile, Scott McTominay remains a leading target for West Ham United, with the Hammers also seemingly closing in on a deal for Red Devils centre-back Harry Maguire.

Fulham have also been linked with a move for Fred this summer, while it is understood that a number of Saudi Pro League clubs were keeping a close eye on the developments surrounding his future.
