Christian Eriksen has reportedly verbally agreed to join Manchester United on a free transfer, with the attacker set to sign a three-year contract with the Red Devils.

Brentford had been hopeful of keeping hold of the 30-year-old, who starred for the Bees in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign following his arrival on a free transfer.

However, Man United are believed to have been pushing for the Denmark international in recent weeks, and according to The Athletic, Eriksen has now verbally agreed to join the club.

The report claims that the Dane is prepared to accept the three-year deal on the table, and there could be an announcement from the club later this week, providing that he comes through the medical tests.

Eriksen had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator device fitted after suffering a cardiac arrest while representing his country at Euro 2020, which saw him leave Inter Milan.

Eriksen scored once and provided four assists in 11 Premier League appearances for the Bees last season and was allegedly quickly identified by Man United's new head coach Erik ten Hag as a leading target.

The Red Devils will head off to Thailand on Friday for the start of their pre-season tour, and Eriksen could be on the plane if the deal moves quickly in the coming days.

Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Newcastle United and Leicester City are also said to have been interested in signing the experienced attacker on a free transfer.

"I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision. I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn't essential for me," Eriksen told Viaplay when questioned on his future.

Man United do not have Champions League football to offer for next term, though, with the club finishing down in sixth position in the 2021-22 Premier League table, so they will feature in the Europa League in 2022-23.

Eriksen previously represented Tottenham between 2013 and 2020, making 305 appearances for the North London side in all competitions, scoring 69 goals and registering 90 assists.

Man United are also on the verge of announcing Tyrell Malacia's arrival from Feyenoord, with the defender set to pen a long-term contract at Old Trafford.

However, a deal for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong has allegedly become complicated, with the Netherlands international still keen to remain at Camp Nou.

There is also uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford, as the Portugal international has allegedly asked the club to listen to offers for him this summer.

Ronaldo was due to return to training with the Red Devils on Monday, but he was absent for personal reasons, and it is unclear when the forward will return to Carrington.
