Manchester United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe allegedly wants to change the role of the manager at Old Trafford moving forward.

Manchester United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly wants to change the role of the manager at Old Trafford as part of the restructuring.

Ratcliffe has taken over the football department at the club, and the owner and founder of INEOS has already made big changes behind the scenes.

According to The Telegraph, the 71-year-old wants to change the manager position at the club to a head coach, with certain responsibilities being taken away from the individual in the dug-out.

The report claims that Ratcliffe wants a head coach to be focused solely on football, with the CEO and sporting director dealing with transfers and other off-the-field matters.

Omar Berrada has been brought in from Manchester City as the new CEO, while Dan Ashworth is set to soon be confirmed as the club's new sporting director.

Erik ten Hag has had a transfer veto at the club since his arrival as Man United manager in the summer of 2022.

Last month, the Dutchman said that he will keep hold of his veto under the new structure, telling reporters: "When I came in, I also got the direction. It's normal that the club dictates the style. So you have to get agreement about this.

"And that is how I work now. So we want to play. And that was given before by the leaders of this club. They want to play proactive, dynamic attacking football. And that is, I think, during my time here, we always try to do.

"Yes, I'm sure it's control. And I have had the talks with them about it and they will not bring in players who the manager doesn't want because it will not work.

"And we will work there, together with suggestions and bringing players in and discussing. And then it's about picking the right players, it's about cooperation and it's about togetherness. That is the way they want to work."

INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford is also a key part of the new set-up under Ratcliffe, while John Murtough is still at Old Trafford as the football director.

A head of recruitment could also be appointed by Ratcliffe, while the British billionaire also needs to make a decision on the future of Ten Hag.

There has been a host of speculation surrounding the managerial position at Old Trafford, with England head coach Gareth Southgate being strongly linked with the role.

However, Ten Hag is set to remain as Man United boss until at least the end of the campaign, and it has been suggested that he could keep his job with the 20-time English champions leading into next season.
