Former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards reportedly has no appetite to take on a similar role at Manchester United after his return to football.

Former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards has reportedly expressed that he has no appetite to take on a similar role at Manchester United after his return to football was confirmed last month.

Edwards spent a total of 11 years at Anfield before stepping down from his position at the club at the end of the 2021-22 season.

If Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquires a 25% stake in Man United, there is speculation about potential replacements for John Murtough in the director of football position.

Football Insider reports that Man United had targeted Edwards for their new project and expressed a willingness to offer him a role as their sporting director.

However, the report adds that Edwards has since confirmed that he has no desire to assume a role similar to the one in which he thrived at Liverpool.

Instead, the former Liverpool chief is directing his attention to his work at Ludonautics consultancy company, which he launched last September after a year-long break from the game.

As a result, United may need to continue their search for Murtough's successor, with Paul Mitchell, who previously worked with MK Dons, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, emerging as a potential candidate.

Although the exact future role of the Glazers remains unconfirmed, a key part of the proposed agreement involves Sir Ratcliffe and his team assuming immediate control of the football side of the club.
