Half-Time Report: Manchester City in control at Sevilla

Manchester City score three first-half goals to control proceedings in their Champions League clash with Sevilla, as Raheem Sterling nets on his return.

Manchester City have scored three first-half goals to control proceedings in their Champions League clash with Sevilla this evening.

The visitors started the match brightly, and could have taken an early lead as Fernandinho dragged an effort wide from the edge of the penalty area, before Wilfried Bony missed the target with a strike from distance.

City took the lead on eight minutes, when Fernandinho played in Raheem Sterling, who cut in from the left before firing past Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

Manuel Pellegrini's side doubled their advantage just three minutes later, Rico parrying a Bony effort into the path of Fernandinho, who placed the ball into the net.

The visitors almost added a third goal moments later, as former Sevilla winger Jesus Navas cut inside from the right before trying his luck on goal, only for his effort to hit the far post.

The hosts grew into the match as the half went on. Renato Ibarra found former Juventus man Fernando Llorente unmarked in the box, before the Spanish striker headed over the bar.

Sevilla pulled a goal back on 25 minutes, as Coke found Benoit Tremoulinas with an inviting chipped pass, before the Frenchman headed past City keeper Joe Hart.

The La Liga outfit came close to an equaliser before the half-hour mark, as Hart kept out a Timothee Kolodziejczak header from a corner, before Iborra fired wide from the rebound.

City restored their two-goal cushion on 36 minutes, as Navas found Bony with an inviting cross, before the Ivorian striker fired past Rico.
