Sylvain Ripoll proud of Lorient display against Marseille

Manager Sylvain Ripoll says that Lorient achieved a "great victory" in beating Marseille 5-3 at the Stade Velodrome.

Sylvain Ripoll hailed the performance of his Lorient team after their "great victory" away to Marseille on Friday.

Two goals in the final 10 minutes from Jordan Ayew and Mathias Autret gave Les Merlus a 5-3 win at the Stade Velodrome.

While Ripoll acknowledged that Ayew played well, the Lorient coach also heaped praise on the rest of his team.

He is quoted by Ligue 1.com as saying: "I am very proud of my team. It's only one result but it's a great victory and it shows us the way to go. It's always an achievement to come to Marseille and win. They are having a bad time but they remain a great team.

"In the context it's a great performance so all credit to the players for the way they played. We were clinical, it is just a shame that we conceded goals the way we did, but tonight we will savour this and then we will work on our errors next week.

"Jordan played very well as did many members of the team. I don't want to single him out even if he was very good and was keen to shine. This win will do us good. It is only three points but three points that will count. There is still a lot of work to do."

The result pulled Lorient out of the relegation zone ahead of this evening's fixtures.
