How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Liverpool

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for Saturday's Premier League showdown with runaway leaders Liverpool as an injured Harry Kane misses out.

Jose Mourinho will be out to spoil the Liverpool party once again when Jurgen Klopp's champions-elect visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Reds would achieve the best-ever points tally after 21 games of an English top-flight season with a victory, while Spurs go into the match with only one win in their last five outings and six points adrift of the Champions League places.

However, Mourinho has only lost three of his previous 17 Premier League games against Liverpool and would no doubt revel in being the man to inflict a first top-flight defeat of the season on the runaway leaders.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how he could line his side up for the contest.

Tottenham's Champions League hopes have been seriously rocked by the news that star striker Harry Kane will miss at least three months after tearing his hamstring during the New Year's Day defeat to Southampton.

The Spurs talisman is set to undergo surgery on the problem which will see him join a growing list of significant absentees, which also includes captain Hugo Lloris.

Lloris is now back in training and a return is not too far away, while Ben Davies is also expected back within a fortnight, although that double boost will come too late for this match.

As if the Kane news was not bad enough, Moussa Sissoko has also been ruled out until April with a knee problem, while Danny Rose and Tanguy Ndombele remain sidelined with a certain degree of mystery surrounding both injuries.

Mourinho does at least have Son Heung-min back from suspension, and the Korean is likely to lead the line alongside Lucas Moura should Spurs opt for a 3-5-2 formation to help counteract the threat of Liverpool's full-backs.

In practice that may well be more like a 5-3-2 formation, but Mourinho will be hopeful that the creativity of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli in midfield, coupled with the pace of Son and Lucas, will cause Liverpool problems on the break.
