Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic finishes level

Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic play out a 1-1 draw at the Reebok Stadium in the Championship.

Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic have played out a 1-1 draw at the Reebok Stadium in the Championship.

Nick Powell scored a late equalising goal for the Latics, but Adam Bogdan's last-minute penalty save denied them all three points.

Ali Al-Habsi was called into action early on to deny Lukas Jutkiewicz's volleyed effort to keep the score level, with the keeper having to be fully alert to keep out the striker.

Shortly after Jutkiewicz did manage to find the back of the net, however, getting a touch on Robert Hall's free kick to give his side the lead.

Martyn Waghorn almost doubled the Trotters' advantage before the break after getting on the end of a deflected effort in the box, but his resulting shot was too weak to beat Bogdan.

Liam Trotter burst through on goal in the opening stages of the second half before being brought down by Emmerson Boyce, who got away with a yellow card. Hall's resulting free kick deflected off the wall and ended up flying inches wide of the crossbar.

The Latics increased the pressure in search of an equaliser and Marc-Antoine Fortune came close to finding one, only to be denied by Bogdan with 67 minutes played.

Callum McManaman was the next player to come close to finding a breakthrough for the visitors, but as he pulled back to get a strike away inside the box, Zat Knight dived in to block the effort and retain his side's advantage.

Wigan did eventually find the goal they craved courtesy of Powell, who converted Waghorn's cross to level the game with two minutes of time remaining.

Jordi Gomez was handed the opportunity to win the contest from the spot with just seconds remaining, but Bogdan was equal to his penalty to ensure that the match ended all square.
