Bolivia docked World Cup qualifying points for fielding ineligible player

Bolivia are stripped of the four World Cup qualifying points they gained from a 2-0 victory over Peru and a goalless draw with Chile as punishment for fielding an ineligible player.

Bolivia have been docked four points in World Cup qualifying as punishment for fielding an ineligible player.

La Verde claimed a 2-0 victory over Peru and a goalless draw with Chile last month.

However, it was found that 33-year-old defender Nelson Cabrera played for Bolivia in those two games, despite having previously represented Paraguay.

As a result, FIFA has awarded Peru and Chile 3-0 victories, while Bolivia were stripped of the points and also fined 12,000 Swiss francs (£10,000).

It is unclear if Bolivia failed to apply properly for Cabrera's transfer of allegiance, or if he was never eligible for his second national team in the first place.

Los Altiplanicos remain second-last in the 10-team South American qualifying standings.
