Barcelona are reportedly still not in a position where they are able to register new signings with La Liga ahead of the new season.

Barcelona are reportedly still not in a position where they can boost their La Liga squad with new signings ahead of the new season.

Despite their well-documented financial issues, the Catalan giants have proceeded to make as many as five high-profile additions.

Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde have all moved to Camp Nou with president Joan Laporta keen to challenge Real Madrid for the La Liga title.

According to The Guardian, Laporta and fellow club officials feel that they have done what is necessary to allow them to formally register their fresh faces in their domestic squad.

La Liga are said to hold a different opinion, however, with Cadena Cope suggesting that some of the money involved to meet regulations has been paid by Barcelona themselves.

Even though Barcelona are in a stronger position, at least in the short term, having sold off percentages of future television rights, the outstanding issue is preventing them from finalising their plans.

As it stands, it is unclear whether Barcelona will be able to improve the situation throughout this week ahead of Saturday's La Liga opener with Rayo Vallecano.

The problems would have been resolved had Manchester United or another club completed a deal for Frenkie de Jong, one of the club's biggest assets and who is on one of the most lucrative wages.

However, it appears increasingly likely that the Netherlands international will now stay at the club, resulting in action needing to be taken with other areas of the squad.

Discussions are currently ongoing as to whether Memphis Depay will depart on a free transfer, that scenario dependent on whether the forward is able to sign for another club of his choosing.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says that only one of the two players will leave before the start of September.

Long-serving defender Gerard Pique is reportedly prepared to sign a new contract on reduced wages in order to help out his boyhood club.

Youngster Nico Gonzalez is also being linked with a switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers, although Valencia are also monitoring the situation.
