Michael Owen beats Stoke City teammates in cook-off

Michael Owen defeats Stoke City teammates Thomas Sorensen and Michael Kightly in a cook-off hosted by celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo.

Stoke City striker Michael Owen has earned his first trophy in his Potters career by winning a cook-off against his teammates in a competition hosted by celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo.

The 32-year-old, who moved to the Britannia Stadium at the start of the season on a free transfer, cooked up the winning dish, which was voted tastier than Thomas Sorensen's and Michael Kightly's efforts.

"I did say I'd come to Stoke City to win something, so for that to happen only a few weeks into my career here is great, even if it was not quite what I was expecting," Owen told the club's official website.

"It was an exciting evening, and I'm really pleased everyone seemed to enjoy it. All the lads suggested it would be a fun night and I'm really pleased that I took part. Obviously winning the award is the icing on the cake, but I'm not sure that I'll be taking many tips back to the kitchen with me!"

Meanwhile, Owen's former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard has claimed that the ex-England international may question his decision to join Manchester United, where he left in the summer.
