Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard apologises after a tweet is sent from his account during the club's Munich air disaster memorial service.

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard has issued an apology after a frivolous tweet was published from his official account during the club's memorial service to mark the 60th anniversary of the Munich air disaster.

The 25-year-old joined teammates and senior club figures yesterday for a ceremony at Old Trafford, which included a minute's silence at 3.04pm to mark the time that the plane carrying the 1958 United 'Busby Babes' team crashed, killing 23 people.

At 3.07pm, in reply to a question over when he would be playing Marcus Rashford at FIFA, a tweet from Lingard's account said: "Your (sic) not ready for me."

The post has since been deleted and Lingard has apologised for what he claims was an 'inadvertent' reply from someone on his social media team.

"A member of my media team inadvertently replied to a tweet this afternoon on my twitter profile during the Munich memorial service at Old Trafford," he wrote.

"I was unaware as I was attending the service at the time, and don't condone the post or the timing in any way.

"The post has now been deleted, and I'd like to apologise for any upset caused, this is totally unacceptable and does not reflect my personality or view on this emotional day."

Lingard has been part of the United setup since the age of seven.
