Kaiserslautern manager 'has heart attack during game'

Kaiserslautern manager Jeff Strasser is taken to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack at the break of a 2.Bundesliga match.

Kaiserslautern manager Jeff Strasser was rushed to hospital last night after suffering a suspected heart attack at half time of their 2.Bundesliga game with SV Darmstadt 98.

The 43-year-old - a former Luxembourg centre-back - was taken ill midway through the game, which was subsequently called off with the scoreline goalless.

In a statement on their website, Kaiserslautern said: "In the half-time break between the Red Devils and the Lilies, FCK head coach Jeff Strasser was taken to a hospital in Darmstadt for health reasons. Because of this medical incident, the away game of the FCK had to be cancelled. This decision was agreed by both clubs. Information on how to restart the game will follow in the next few days.

"The FCK asks all fans and media for understanding that we must wait for medical [results] before commenting on the events surrounding the second division match. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous FCK fans and followers of the SV Darmstadt 98 for their great understanding, the great response and the very moving reactions in the stadium and the encouragement across all channels."

Kaiserslautern are currently rock bottom of the 2.Bundesliga with just two wins to their name all season.
