Adrian Mutu moves to Cesena

Fiorentina have sold Adrian Mutu to Cesena, the club confirmed this evening.

The 32-year-old striker confirmed he had accepted reduced pay in order for the deal to go through. Just two days ago Cesena had indicated that they had lost interest in the player.

A statement from Fiorentina said: "ACF Fiorentina communicates to have sold Adrian Mutu to Cesena Calcio on a permanent basis. The club thanks Adrian for his work over the past few seasons and wish him all the very best for the future."

Mutu, who has been signed for two years with the option of a third, said: "I am enthusiastic and I cannot wait to start this adventure. I want to thank the president for having put me at the centre of this ambitious project."

The Romanian has been subject of much controversy off the pitch in recent years. Last April he was handed a six-month ban for failing a doping test, then admitted to punching a barman in October. In January he was suspended by Fiorentina for a month after going AWOL.

Mutu is also continuing to appeal against an order that he must pay €17 million (£15 million) to former club Chelsea after being sacked for failing a cocaine drugs test in 2004.
