Euro 2020 sees its 10th own goal go in, surpassing the tally of own goals from all previous editions of the European Championship combined.

Euro 2020 has now seen more own goals than every other previous European Championship combined following Denis Zakaria's inadvertent opener during Friday's quarter-final between Switzerland and Spain.

Zakaria hung a leg out inside his own box in an attempt to block Jordi Alba's strike from the edge of the box, only to accidentally deflect it past his own goalkeeper Yann Sommer to give Spain the lead.

The goal was initially awarded to Alba but, despite some replays suggesting that the shot was indeed going on target, UEFA eventually credited it to Zakaria instead.

Zakaria's own goal was the 10th already at Euro 2020 - more than the 15 previous editions of the tournament combined, which yielded nine own goals.

The tally also means that 'own goal' has taken over from Michel Platini's nine-goal haul in 1984 as the leading scorer at a single European Championships.

The other own goals at Euro 2020 have been scored by Merih Demiral, Wojciech Szczesny, Mats Hummels, Ruben Dias, Raphael Guerreiro, Lukas Hradecky, Martin Dubravka, Juraj Kucka and Pedri.
