Portugal are reportedly set to sack their head coach Fernando Santos following Portugal's quarter-final exit at the 2022 World Cup.

Portugal are reportedly set to sack their manager Fernando Santos after their quarter-final exit from the 2022 World Cup.

The Selecao were eliminated from the World Cup when they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Morocco in the last eight.

Following the defeat, Santos indicated that he was going to discuss his future with his superiors when he returned to Lisbon.

His current contract supposedly runs until June 2024, but according to GOAL, Santos is expected to be relieved of his duties as Portugal boss.

The report claims that Lille manager Paulo Fonseca is in contention to replace the 68-year-old, while Roma head coach Jose Mourinho has also been linked with the role.

Since guiding Portugal to Euro 2016 glory, Santos has overseen last-16 exits at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020, before the Selecao were eliminated at the quarter-final stage in Qatar.
