Report: Steve McClaren's relationship with Newcastle players fraying

A report claims that Newcastle United players and staff have come to verbal blows over suggestions that some players do not care enough about the club's plight.

Steve McClaren has reportedly become infuriated with the attitude of some Newcastle United players as the club continues to struggle in the Premier League.

The Magpies lost 3-0 at home to new league leaders Leicester City on Saturday to leave the North-East club only a point outside the relegation zone with just two wins from their first 13 matches.

According to a report from The Telegraph, McClaren has accused several members of his squad of not caring enough about the club's battle to avoid relegation.

The paper also claims that this has led to a number of "angry exchanges" between some players and members of the club's coaching staff, which allegedly took place on the training ground in front of teammates.

The report comes after it was alleged that McClaren still has the belief of the club's board that he is the right man to turn the club's fortunes around.

The Magpies face a trip to take on their former manager Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace side next Saturday.
