Preview: New England Revolution vs. CF Montreal - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Major League Soccer clash between New England Revolution and CF Montreal, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two teams at opposite ends of the Major League Soccer Western Conference will meet this weekend when CF Montreal make the journey to face New England Revolution.

The visitors are pushing to try and win the division in their final few games, meanwhile the Revs are currently sat in midtable heading into this one.

Match preview

New England Revolution have had a mixed season this year, winning just nine games while they have picked up 11 draws and defeats alongside them.

That is why the club finds itself in 10th place right now, but despite that they still find themselves with the possibility of being able to finish in the playoffs.

The Revs are only three points outside of the top seven right now, putting plenty of pressure on their remaining fixtures to try and make a late push.

However, they head into this match on the back of consecutive defeats, with the latest being a 3-1 loss against Houston Dynamo, despite the fact that Carles Gil equalised in the 67th minute.

Even though they are out of form recently, both of those matches have been on the road, and New England Revolution have been stronger at home this season.

CF Montreal also have a lot to play for in this game considering the fact they are just seven points behind Philadelphia Union, who are the current league leaders.

While the visitors only have three matches left this season, winning the division is still mathematically possible, which should provide them with all the motivation they need.

Wilfried Nancy's men have momentum behind them right now as they are undefeated in their past three games, which included a five-goal thriller in midweek.

Montreal were able to defeat Chicago Fire 3-2 after Kei Kamara scored a brace, and Zachary Brault-Guillard notched the winner, with all three taking place in the first half, showcasing their ability to start strong.

The squad was also able to defeat New England 4-0 as recently as August, and a repeat of that performance would be ideal for the squad this weekend.

Team News

Gil walked straight back into the Revs starting lineup in midweek after missing a game following the birth of his child, and it is likely he will retain his place in the team this time around.

Jacob Jackson remains out of action following his ACL injury which has written him out for the remainder of the season, which means Dorde Petrovic will remain the number one goalkeeper.

After scoring a brace in midweek Kamara will retain his place leading the line for the visitors, especially since he also got on the scoresheet the last time these two teams met.

Montreal are still adapting to life without Chinoso Offor after he was loaned out of the club, but midweek showed signs that it should not be an issue.

New England Revolution possible starting lineup:
Petrovic; Bye, Farrell, Kessler, Jones; Maciel, Polster, Kaptoum; McNamara, Gil; Bou

CF Montreal possible starting lineup:
Breza; Corbo, Camacho, Brault-Guillard; Johnston, Piette, Wanyama, Mihailovic, Miljevic; Kamara, Toye

We say: New England Revolution 1-2 CF Montreal

This is set to be a closely fought game due to the fact both teams still have a lot to play for as the season draws to a close.

However, CF Montreal boast a lot more momentum in recent times, and that could end up being enough to carry them through this particular fixture.
