A report claims that Kalidou Koulibaly remains Manchester United's top defensive target and the Red Devils are prepared to wait until the summer to get their man.

Manchester United will reportedly focus all their efforts on bringing in Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old is believed to have been the Red Devils' top defensive target this month as they attempt to shore up their backline.

An agreement could not be reached with Napoli, however, and the London Evening Standard suggests that United are now willing to bide their time before making a fresh approach.

United have vastly improved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, winning eight games from eight since the interim boss took charge last month, but they have kept just three clean sheets during that run and are prepared to spend big on a high-profile defender.

Koulibaly, who has started 25 of Napoli's 27 Serie A and Champions League matches this term, is said to be "happy" at the Stadio San Paolo.

The report also indicates that Solskjaer is more focused on outgoings than incomings at the moment, with a couple of players likely to be moved on before Koulibaly arrives in the summer.
