Bayern Munich president insists club can afford Erling Braut Haaland

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer insists that the German club can compete for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has insisted that the reigning European champions are capable of bringing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland to the club.

The 20-year-old's future remains the subject of much speculation, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid all said to be keen on signing him.

Bayern were not thought to be in the race for the Norway international, but according to Hainer, the Bundesliga giants have the financial muscle needed to bring the youngster to Munich.

"We are an economically very strong and healthy club," he told Sport1. "Although we're also suffering massively from the pandemic, we can always bring in players when we're convinced about them.

"I can't say today. We are in a pandemic, the whole world is in an extraordinary situation – socially, financially and football-wise as well. Things are changing every day, so I'm not going to make any predictions.

"What is certain, however, is that in the future, we will continue to pursue our successful path of signing young players with outstanding skills."

Haaland has scored 43 goals and registered 11 assists in 45 appearances for Dortmund since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, including 27 strikes in 27 outings in all competitions this term.
