Gary Neville says that he would not be surprised if Ralf Rangnick stepped down as Manchester United's interim head coach before the end of the campaign.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has said that he would not be surprised if Ralf Rangnick stepped down as the club's interim head coach before the end of the campaign.

Rangnick, who replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm late last year, is due to lead the Red Devils for the remainder of the season before becoming an advisor at Old Trafford.

However, Man United's recent form has been poor, winning just two of their last nine matches in all competitions, and they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Neville has claimed that Rangnick is "ready to go" and poor results in the team's next two matches against Arsenal and Chelsea could lead to the German stepping down from his current role.

"He's ready to go, him. It's only his class and his professionalism that's stopping him telling us what he really thinks of these players. It could come," Neville told Sky Sports News.

"Arsenal away Saturday, Chelsea at home Thursday... I can't think he's going to keep on watching this. He's alluded to it in a couple of interviews but it really is low because there was nothing in that first half."

Man United's heavy loss at Anfield saw them drop behind Arsenal in the league table to sixth position, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who now have a match in hand.
