Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk could equal a Premier League unbeaten record set by Lee Sharpe when the Reds take on Leeds United at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk will be aiming to equal an all-time Premier League unbeaten record when the Reds take on Leeds United in Wednesday's encounter.

After missing a large chunk of the 2020-21 season through injury, the 30-year-old has returned to start 23 Premier League games for the Reds this term, claiming two goals and one assist.

Van Dijk was absent for Liverpool's abysmal run of home defeats last season, and the ex-Southampton man is yet to suffer defeat in any of his 58 top-flight Anfield games in a Liverpool shirt.

Should Van Dijk play and avoid defeat against Leeds on Wednesday, he will equal Lee Sharpe's Premier League record of 59 consecutive home matches without losing for a single club.

Sharpe was involved in 47 wins and 12 draws with Manchester United during that phenomenal streak, and his run ended with a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday following his move to Leeds United in 1996.

Meanwhile, Van Dijk has won 50 and drawn eight of his 58 top-flight Anfield encounters with Liverpool, who could move three points behind Manchester City with a win in midweek.
