Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that 'there is no magic wand' to address the issues at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that 'there is no magic wand' to address the issues that exist at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have lost 16 times in all competitions during the 2023-24 campaign, including 11 in the Premier League, with the team currently down in sixth position in the table.

Man United are six points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and 11 from fourth-placed Aston Villa in the battle to qualify for the 2024-25 Champions League.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has arrived as the club's new minority shareholder, with the British billionaire taking over the football department at Old Trafford, but Solskjaer has said that there is no quick fix due to the deep-rooted problems which have cost the club success in recent years.

"I don't think there is a magic wand, as in let's change the owners," Solskjaer, who was in charge of Man United between December 2018 and November 2021, said on the Stick to Football podcast.

"Obviously they have their certain way of working, the Glazers have still got the commercial [operation] - who knows how it is going to be in football, that side of it.

"With Erik [ten Hag], I hope he is going to be successful. I hope he is going to make it but you never know what the new owners are thinking. It's about results and consistency the rest of the season."

Solskjaer also opened up on the dressing-room leaks during his time as head coach of the 20-time English champions, admitting that some players became "sour" due to their lack of action.

"I felt we [coaching staff] had a very good rapport with the players, but there are always one or two in a squad that leak things because they are unhappy," he said.

"Being a manager, you play a game Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, you sack about 14 players every game, and the next morning you have to tell them they have another chance.

"There are only a certain amount of times you can say, 'I'll give you that game, you've got a chance'. In the end, they go sour. We had a big squad with too many players. If you have too many players, they get unhappy."

Man United's only realistic chance of claiming silverware this season comes in the shape of the FA Cup, with the team hosting Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the competition on March 17.

The Red Devils will be aiming to bounce back from successive league defeats to Fulham and Manchester City when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
