Lewis Hamilton responds to speculation of a possible Manchester United takeover bid with Jim Ratcliffe, who has expressed an interest in buying the club.

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has addressed rumours of a potential Manchester United takeover with Jim Ratcliffe.

The Glazer family's ownership of the Red Devils has been the subject of criticism from fans, who have held protests in recent weeks and months.

Ratcliffe is believed to be considering a bid if the Glazers decide to sell after previously expressing an interest in buying United, with reports linking Hamilton with a potential takeover.

The Mercedes driver was reportedly involved alongside Serena Williams in Martin Broughton's consortium's failed takeover of Chelsea.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Hamilton has commented on speculation of being involved in a potential bid with Ratcliffe.

Hamilton said: "It's the first time I've heard of it, so I haven't had time to catch up with Jim since I was in Namibia, which I need to do because he goes to Namibia quite often.

"Jim's part boss but partner - I'd say we're more partners because we're in this together, and I hope in future to do something with Jim and build with him.

"I don't know where that will be or what that will be, so I can't really say. I haven't had a call from him asking if I want to be involved in that (a United bid) just yet.

"But I do want to get more and more involved in teams because I really do believe in black ownership, there is a lack of it in sports. And black equity, again, there is a real lack of that."

While Hamilton missed out on a podium place at the Dutch Grand Prix, United celebrated a 3-1 victory over previously unbeaten Arsenal on Sunday.
