Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim explains why Chido Obi will not feature in Tuesday's Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed that Chido Obi will not feature in the matchday squad for Tuesday's meeting with Nottingham Forest after it was decided that he would play in the FA Youth Cup semi-finals.

The Denmark Under-21 international joined Man United last summer after making the decision to leave Arsenal's academy.

Obi made his first-team debut as a late substitute in Man United's 1-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on February 16.

The 17-year-old has gone on to feature in three more matches for the senior side, with his most recent appearance coming against Leicester City before the international break.

However, Obi will not be on the bench for Man United's first game back since claiming a commanding 3-0 victory over the Foxes on March 16.

Amorim explains Obi absence

Amorim has revealed that a decision was made for Obi to feature in Man United's FA Youth Cup semi-final against Aston Villa.

Speaking before the semi-final tie, Amorim told reporters: "He is going to play today because we try to imagine the next game and if you look before he was on the bench and just played against Fulham, but just 10 minutes at the end of the game, and we have to manage the minutes, we have to give the minutes to the kid,"

"So tomorrow I try to imagine the game, I imagine also it is really important for our young kids to feel the energy also of the game.

"It is really important for us, we are trying to win that competition, trying to build something with the youth, and the good thing with the academy players is they have that feeling of winning.

"So we are trying to to manage everything and Chido needs to play also, so we are helping the team and the player."

Did Man United win FA Youth Cup semi-final?

Unfortunately for Obi and his teammates, it proved to be an unsuccessful outing for Man United Under-18s in their semi-final clash against Aston Villa.

Man United's James Scanlon found the net in the 23rd minute to cancel out Traivarn Mulley's early opener at Villa Park.

The tie ultimately went to extra time and penalties, where Man United missed three of their four spot kicks, compared to the three converted by Aston Villa.

Villa will go on to face Watford or Manchester City in next month's FA Youth Cup final.
