Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers have faced each other a total of 87 times across all competitions and it is the Tractor Boys who marginally lead the overall head-to-head record having posted 33 wins to the Old Gold's 30, while there have also been 25 draws played out between the two clubs.

Their very first meeting took place back in November 1961 when Wolves secured a 2-0 home win over Ipswich in the old Division One, and both teams went on to play each other regularly in the first and second divisions of English football.

Indeed, between 1961 and 2003, Ipswich and Wolves played against each other 56 times in the league alone, with the Tractor Boys winning 24 of those and the Old Gold coming out on top 18 times, while the remaining 14 ended all square.

Ipswich and Wolves butted heads on nine occasions in cup competitions during that period; Ipswich won 3-1 on aggregate in the second round of the Texaco Cup in October/November 1972, before winning an FA Cup third-round tie 2-1 on the road in January 1975, but Wolves came out on top across the next two FA Cup ties in 1976 and 1977, winning 1-0 and 3-2 on aggregate respectively.

After the Championship was rebranded in 2004, Ipswich won only four of their 20 second-tier encounters against Wolves, with back-to-back victories in December 2012 (2-0) and November 2014 (2-1) followed by four successive draws and then two defeats, failing to score in each of the last five of those.

The most recent cup tie between Ipswich and Wolves took place in September 2023 when the Tractor Boys - flying high in the Championship at the time - stunned the top-flight Old Gold by winning 3-2 at Portman Road in the EFL Cup third round.

Ipswich also won the first-ever Premier League meeting between the two teams in December 2024, with Jack Taylor scoring a dramatic 94th-minute winner to seal a 2-1 victory at Molineux, but Wolves got their revenge at Portman Road in April 2025 when they came from behind to win 2-1 thanks to second-half goals from Pablo Sarabia and Jorgen Strand Larsen.
