Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus will reportedly threaten legal action against the nine clubs who withdrew from the European Super League.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are reportedly threatening legal action against the nine clubs who withdrew from the European Super League.

Manchester City were the first team who announced their intentions to withdraw from the breakaway competition last month, which sparked the other five Premier League clubs – Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur – as well as Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan, to follow suit.

However, according to the New York Times the three European giants, who remain signed up to the Super League project, have warned the other nine clubs that they will be penalised with multi-million pound fines if they walk away.

All 12 Super League clubs were condemned by UEFA and they initially threatened them with expulsion from their European competitions.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has since suggested that they are prepared to fine the nine clubs as they have all 'accepted their commitments and willingness to repair the disruption they caused', with all financial penalties to be reinvested into youth and grassroots football.

However, Ceferin has also stated that Real, Barca an Juve will face 'appropriate action' after failing to pull out from the Super League, which could include two-year bans from the Champions League.

The Super League project collapsed within 48 hours after it was first announced on April 18, largely due to the significant backlash and widespread protests from fans as well as former and current players in the game.
