Liverpool confirm the signing of midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan deal from Juventus, with no option to buy included in the agreement.

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan deal from Juventus.

The Reds entered the market for midfield reinforcements on deadline day after captain Jordan Henderson suffered a hamstring injury during Wednesday night's 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

Liverpool are also currently without the injured Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, prompting them to bolster their ranks with a late deal for Arthur.

The 26-year-old arrives at Anfield on a temporary deal for the 2022-23 campaign, and it is understood that the agreement does not include an option to buy at the end of the season.

"I'm really, really happy to be here wearing this great shirt with this famous badge that represents so much in world football, it's a dream," Arthur told the club's official website.

"We talked a lot, and our ideas and visions were a good fit so I'm sure it was the right choice. I'm really happy and highly motivated to continue living my dream on the pitch and giving my all in a Liverpool shirt."

Arthur spent two seasons at Juventus following his arrival from Barcelona in 2020, making 63 appearances but often finding himself behind others in the pecking order in Turin.

The Brazil international was part of the Barcelona side that was beaten 4-0 by Liverpool in their Champions League semi-final second leg in May 2019.

The deal is still subject to international clearance, but Arthur could make his debut for Jurgen Klopp's side in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.
