Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Southampton

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Southampton.

After their game at Manchester United on Sunday was postponed late on, Liverpool will be looking to make up some lost ground when they host Southampton on Saturday evening.

The Reds' showdown with bitter rivals United was called off on Sunday due to demonstrations outside and inside Old Trafford against United's owners.

Liverpool will therefore have had a two-week break between matches, which at least gives Jurgen Klopp a chance to get some more of his injured players back up to full fitness.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the visit of Southampton.

Jordan Henderson

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: May 16 (vs. West Brom)

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson is recovering from a serious groin problem that has kept him out since February. Klopp stated ahead of the United game that he is unsure exactly when the England international will play again, but it is unlikely to be in the next fortnight.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Joel Matip is not expected to return to action before the end of the season due to an ankle injury sustained a couple of months ago.

Joe Gomez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Joe Gomez is making good progress on his return from a serious knee injury. The defender has stepped up his training programme, but a return before the end of 2020-21 is unlikely.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Virgil van Dijk, the third of Liverpool's long-term central-defensive absentees, has not played since October because of an ACL injury. The Netherlands international has not yet returned to full training and Klopp last week played down his chances of playing at Euro 2020.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Abdominal
Possible return date: Unknown

Back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was only expected to spend a brief spell on the sidelines with an abdominal issue, but he has now been absent from the bench for nearly two months and was not part of the squad to face United last time out.

Divock Origi

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Muscular
Possible return date: May 8 (vs. Southampton)

Divock Origi is another who was not included in the matchday squad announced by Liverpool to face United before the game was called off. The Belgian forward has not been seen for several weeks and there is a chance that he has played his final game for the club.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for Saturday's match.
