Former Liverpool striker John Toshack has reportedly been moved into intensive care as he battles with COVID-19.

The 72-year-old - who most recently managed Tractor FC in the Persian Gulf Pro League for three months in 2018 - is understood to be undergoing treatment in Barcelona.

According to El Diario Vasco - via The Mirror - Toshack's condition has become more critical in the last few hours, although there is yet to be any official word from his family or the hospital.

Toshack was a part of two European Cup and three Premier League-winning teams during his eight-year stint with Liverpool between 1970 and 1978, recording 92 goals and 44 assists in 234 games for the Reds.

The ex-Wales international proceeded to spend six years on the books at Swansea City before hanging up his boots in 1984 and venturing into management with the likes of Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and his native Wales.

Toshack's trophy haul as a manager includes the 1989-90 La Liga title with Real Madrid, the 1987 Copa del Rey with Real Sociedad and a Cup and Super Cup double with Turkish side Besiktas in 1998.
