Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirms that he wants Sunday's match against Tottenham Hotspur to go ahead, despite three of his players missing out due to coronavirus.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he is keen to see Sunday's match against Tottenham Hotspur go ahead, despite three first-team players returning suspected positive coronavirus tests.

Shortly before Thursday night's 3-1 win over Newcastle United, the Reds confirmed that Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones would miss the game due to COVID-19.

The trio are again expected to miss out this weekend, while Spurs have seen their last three games across all competitions postponed.

However, Klopp is eager to press ahead with the fixture, so long as the coronavirus outbreak in his squad does not get any worse.

When asked about the three players who had tested positive, Klopp told reporters: "It's not confirmed yet, it's an ongoing process, they are not here but they are fine.

"In this moment nobody else is positive but it's pretty early still and the players will come a little later so we will see. If we have six, seven, eight more cases we couldn't play but with the situation at the moment we can play and we would like to play.

"We don't have anything to hide. Our most important concern is that the boys are healthy. If someone has flu and you ask me, I'll say he has flu. If he has a broken toe, I'll say he has a broken toe.

"I have no idea what to expect from them (Tottenham). After this news conference we will have an analyst meeting with old footage. We have no information. For them it is difficult as well. Who does not want to play for two weeks and then have to play again?

"More transparency would be really helpful. We know that three players are probably not going to be available. I heard Manchester United had a number of cases but I don't know how many. I had no information on who had the virus at Tottenham."

Liverpool have won their last eight games across all competitions and sit just a point behind leaders Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
