Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson admits that he will be out for a slice of revenge against Real Madrid during the Champions League final on May 28.

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has admitted that revenge will be on his mind when the Reds face Real Madrid in the Champions League final later this month.

The Scotland international played the full 90 minutes on that fateful evening in Kyiv four years ago, as Los Blancos defeated Jurgen Klopp's side 3-1 in the showpiece event.

After Sergio Ramos's challenge on Mohamed Salah forced the Egyptian to leave the field in tears, Real struck through Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale during a disastrous evening for Loris Karius.

Robertson is one of several current Liverpool players to have shared his 2018 heartbreak, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Salah also involved in that final.

Liverpool will be out to win their seventh European crown in Paris on May 28, and Robertson is motivated by the thought of 'getting one over' the most successful team in the tournament's history.

"Look, obviously the final against Madrid didn't go as we wanted it to and they put us out last season as well, so since I've been here we've not managed to get one over on Real Madrid," Robertson told reporters after Saturday's FA Cup final success against Chelsea.

"They've knocked us out and they have beaten us in the final, so it'd be nice to play them again and try and get one over on them because we've not managed it. But when it comes to cup finals you want to win them all regardless, it doesn't really matter who you play.

"You want to win the trophy and that's my mindset but it's also Real Madrid's mindset. So it'll be an incredibly difficult game but we've got big Premier League games to focus on first and then we'll have a week to focus on that game.

"We've shown that we know how to win trophies. We've stood tall, put in good performances, dug deep when it matters and we're delighted to obviously have the two trophies in the bag.

"That's incredible and we're still fighting for the Premier League. It's out of our hands but we'll obviously fight for the Champions League when the time comes to it.

"I am sure we'll be ready for the Champions League final. The adrenaline will get us through and we're all looking forward to the occasion already."

Real Madrid also dumped Liverpool out of the 2020-21 Champions League in the quarter-finals - winning 3-1 in the Spanish capital before a 0-0 draw at Anfield 13 months ago.

Robertson won his sixth trophy in Liverpool colours as the Reds defeated Chelsea 6-5 on penalties in the FA Cup final - adding to his Champions League, Premier League, EFL Cup, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup medals.

The 28-year-old has provided two goals and 15 assists in 45 appearances for Klopp's team in all tournaments this term - setting up his teammates three times in the Champions League so far.

Liverpool's cup double means that they are still in the hunt for an unprecedented quadruple, but they need to avoid defeat in Tuesday's clash with Southampton to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

Manchester City currently hold a four-point lead at the top of the rankings, and the Reds will then meet Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield to round off their Premier League season before the Champions League final.
