Reading midfielder John Swift reportedly turns down the chance to join Leeds United in the January transfer window.

Reading midfielder John Swift has reportedly turned down the chance to join Leeds United in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old has just over six months remaining on his contract at the Madejski Stadium, and has been linked with a move to the Premier League, amid reported interest from Marcelo Bielsa's side, as well as Brentford, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, the Reading Chronicle reports that Swift has no intention of leaving the Royals in January but will consider his options in the summer when he becomes a free agent.

This news will come as a blow for Leeds, who are on the lookout to sign a central midfielder in the winter window, as Kalvin Phillips is set to be sidelined for up to two months with a hamstring injury.

Swift has been Reading's standout performer in the Championship this season, and he is currently the highest scoring midfielder in the division with eight strikes to his name.

The Englishman has also provided nine assists in his 21 appearances this term, which can only be matched in the second tier by Cardiff City's Ryan Giles.

Swift, an academy graduate from Chelsea, has spent the last five-and-a-half years with the Royals, making a total of 185 appearances across all competitions.
